JAPANESE HAND-PAINTED MORIAGE "CASTLE" PORCELAIN DECORATIVE WALL PLATE FROM 1940'S-50'S
This vintage RARE hand-painted moriage porcelain decorative wall plate measures 8" round and 1" high. It depicts an abstract and surreal 16th century Japanese castle (looks like the Nagoya or Himeji Castle) surrounded by a lake and pine trees. These castles were built in feudal Japan during the 16th century to serve as military fortresses in addition to showing strength and power. The colors are blue, lite blue and salmon-peach with gray, green and lite brown accents. The built-up MORIAGE design gives the image a three-dimensional effect. The glowing salmon-peach color on the horizon suggests the sun setting behind the castle. The back has the original silk cord - string to hang on the wall.
I estimate this vintage decorator wall plate to be from the 1940's-50's. This vintage Japanese moriage decorative wall plate is in good condition for being about 65-75 years. It has a few inclusions from the pottery firing process including a small poch mark and bubble on the upper-right side and a small bubble and tiny black dot on the upper-left side. Please see photos for condition. Please excuse the glare spots on the photo of the back. What a great addition to your Japanese porcelain/pottery collection or for aficionados of traditional Japanese architecture or Japanese history!
